Steven Espada Dawson

Steven Espada Dawson is a writer from East Los Angeles, currently living and working out of Austin, Texas. The son of a Mexican immigrant, he received his MFA from Purdue University, where he studied under Marianne Boruch, Donald Platt, Kaveh Akbar, Terese Mailhot, and Roxane Gay. He has served as a poetry editor for Sycamore Review and a senior poetry editor for Copper Nickel. Winner of the Barriss and Iola Mills Award and the Kneale Award, his poems appear/appear soon in The Adroit Journal, Best New Poets (2020), Copper Nickel, Gulf Coast, and Kenyon Review Online, among other journals. Currently, he teaches community-based poetry workshops for the Austin Library Foundation and provides one-on-one mentorship for young poets at Ellipsis Writing.
